South Berkeley Neighborhood

The area where Berkeley, Oakland and Emeryville all come together is one of the better kept secrets in the East Bay. Because of the relatively low property prices it has become an attractive area for young families buying their first home. New restaurants like Cafe Casa at the corner of Sacramento and 66th, and the Aquarius Cafe on 65th St. west of San Pablo Ave. are two of the neighborhood's new additions and, I believe, a harbinger of things to come. The new Berkeley Bowl is scheduled to open mid May at the corner of Heinz and 9th St. and the new Ed Roberts Campus beign built in the overflow parking lot at the Ashby BART is another promising sign for an area that has often felt neglected in favor of Berkeley's wealthier North side.
